Our February BR407 meeting will take place on the third Friday of February (which is on 02/20/2009) at Altamonte Mall starting around 6 PM as usual.
There is a big Orlando event before this meeting that I recommend that everyone attend! I wish we had organized a field trip for this, and I may contact members who are registered for this site (register on this site for email updates on special events and meeting reminders once per month), but the Orlando Hamcation will take place on February 13-15, 2009, at the Central Florida Fairgrounds. This is a great place to find old, used hardware and meet some really interesting HAM radio enthusiasts. It is a very laid back casual atmosphere that I look forward to every year. If anyone wants to work out some ride-sharing, email me and I will see what we can work out.
Since we had a field trip last month, we were not able to start our new meeting segment so we are hoping to make time to start this in February. Cheshire has agreed to have "Cheshire's story time" with us each meeting about different topics. Since he has been in the hacking world for a long time, he has lots of great stories to tell and will entertain topics. I thought a good first topic would be John Draper aka "Captain Crunch". Cheshire has known John for a long time and can tell us all kinds of stories.
I usually show up for the Friday meetings around 5:15-5:30 and sit towards the front of the food court so that I can easily be found with my laptop and BR shirt. You do not have to come that early! We have many people who are not able to make it until after work so you are welcome to stroll in anytime that you feel like it! Most people show up around 6 PM and we do not start any presentations until 6 at the earliest. You may miss a few things, but you are still welcome to show up for as long as you can. There is not set schedule or timeline and people are welcome to come and go as they please.
We will also have our normal meeting content... |

Happy new year!
We will be starting off 2009 with out regularly scheduled meeting plus a Saturday field trip for those who are interested. Our Friday meeting will take place this Friday at Altamonte Mall starting around 6 PM as usual.

On Saturday, we are taking a field trip to the nearby Maitland Historical Society to see the telephone museum. The cost for this is $3.00 per adult at the door and $1.00 per child. If you are planning to go, please show up Friday at the meeting so we can organize carpools and exact times. If you cannot make the Friday meeting, we cannot guarantee the time, but I am looking at going sometime in the afternoon around 2-3 PM. Email me if you are planning to do this. NOTE: I will be filming this field trip for an episode of HackTV (assuming they allow filming) so if you want to be in an official episode, please come along.
This field trip has a surprise part 2! As it turns out, there is also an antique telephone show at the Maitland Civic Center located here. Since it is not far from the museum, we will attend both events. The antique telephone show looks like it has a $5.00 entry fee per person, but it is not clear if that is only for vendors or not.
Thanks to Cheshire for finding these events and organizing these trips!

Happy Holidays everyone! The BR407 meeting will happen this December 19, 2008 at the Altamonte Mall. I am hoping that it is far enough away from the holidays so that everyone can make it. This will obviously be our last meeting of 2008.
We have a new site manager for BR407. Some of you may know inph3rn0 from our meeting. My thanks go out to him for taking over the maintaining of this site.
Cheshire will be coming to our meeting again this month, so please bring your questions about the history of hacking (A favorite topic of mine) and he will most assuredly have some great stories to tell. I might set aside 30 minutes of each meeting for "Cheshire's story time" if he is willing.
Our video project appears to be dead. The person who was working on our video disappeared a few months back, so this project is back on hold. We may continue on without him if anyone else is interested.
