"BinRev" is short for "Binary Revolution". It is a large scale, community changing project started by StankDawg and the DDP. These meetings are one part of it.
The Binary Revolution is a movement (a revolution) of taking back the hacking community from those who have abused it or do not appreciate it. We are not criminals, we are hackers. We should be using our gifts for good, productive efforts and not for destruction. Too long hackers have been demonized as bad guys by the media. Some of us are good, proud, upstanding members of the community and we want to stand up and let people know that hackers are just people who think differently than others and push the boundaries of what is possible. This is not a source of shame, it is a source of pride!
The other part of the revolution is the fact that we truly beleive in the original hacker mindset. We believe that information is invaluable and should be shared with as many people as possible. Any one of you reading this could be the next Linus Torvalds, Steve Jobs, or Bill Gates. We want to help foster everyone along their path to reach their full potential. We welcome new hackers. We help answer questions whenever possible. We will do our best to give you tools and knowledge necessary to succeed in hacking, and in life. "Elitism" is a thing of the past. We will not talk down, or treat new people poorly. In fact, we will do quite the opposite. I can promise you that new people will be welcomed and helped as much as they are willing to help themselves.
